Indian V-twin 680cc

c1915

ORIGIN: Springfield, Massachusetts, USA

The partnership between two bicycle enthusiasts of the late 1800s – American George Hendee (a champion penny-farthing bicycle racer) and Swede Oscar Edstrom, a designer of pacer motorcycles used in competitive cycling events – led to the first Indian motorcycle being manufactured in 1901. ‘You can’t wear out an Indian Scout, they are built like rocks to take hard knocks’ was how the advertising helped make Indian one of the largest and most successful motorcycle companies in the world at this early time of motoring evolution.
