Hillman Imp

The Hillman Imp or ‘Apex’ project was started in 1955 by Tim Fry and Michael Parkes, who worked for the Rootes Group in Coventry. Several years later production started on this compact car at a specially designed factory at Linwood, Scotland. In the mid 1960s, Rootes was taken over by the Chrysler Corporation and became Chrysler UK. 440,000 Imps were eventually produced between 1963 and 1976.
